Epoxy Flooring Questions
Straight answers to what people in Bloemfontein ask most before getting an epoxy floor.
How much does epoxy flooring cost per square metre?
It depends mostly on the state of the concrete and the finish you choose, so a fair price needs the size and a few photos. What affects the cost explains the main factors.
How long does an epoxy floor last?
On properly ground concrete, a home garage floor commonly lasts ten years or more. Busy commercial floors may need a fresh topcoat sooner, and the floor underneath doesn't have to be replaced.
How soon can I park on a new epoxy garage floor?
Foot traffic is normally fine the next day. Wait five to seven days before parking on it, and a bit longer during a cold snap.
Can epoxy go over tiles?
Sometimes. Firmly bonded tiles can be ground and coated, but loose or hollow ones have to come up first. See epoxy floors for homes.
Will an epoxy floor crack?
Epoxy follows the slab underneath. Cracks are filled before coating, but a crack that's still moving can show through again, and the installer will point those out at the measure-up.
Will hot tyres lift it?
Not a properly prepared two-part epoxy floor. Hot-tyre lifting is a problem with thin one-pack floor paint; see floor paint vs a proper coating.
Is an epoxy floor slippery?
A high-gloss floor gets slick when it's wet. Flake gives some texture underfoot, and grit mixed into the topcoat helps on ramps, stoeps and laundries.
Is it safe indoors?
It smells while it's being applied, so ventilate and keep children and pets away. Once fully cured it's inert and doesn't give off fumes.
Can epoxy be used outside?
Covered stoeps and patios work well with a UV-stable topcoat. Fully exposed areas need an outdoor-rated system, and the installer will advise on that.
Do you work outside Bloemfontein?
Ask. Smallholdings around Bainsvlei and nearby towns may be possible, depending on the size of the job.
What do you need for a quote?
