Flake, Metallic and Solid Colour Epoxy Floors
The finish sets how the floor looks, how much it hides and how it feels underfoot. Here's how the three main options compare.
Flake epoxy floors
Vinyl flakes are broadcast into a coloured base coat and sealed under a clear topcoat. It's the most forgiving finish: dust, tyre marks and small chips disappear into the pattern, and the texture gives some grip. That's why it's the usual pick for garages, laundries, stoeps and gyms. Common blends are grey, charcoal and sand.

Metallic epoxy floors
Metallic pigments in the epoxy are worked by hand so they swirl and pool, which gives a marbled, glossy look that's different on every floor. It suits living areas, entertainment rooms, salons, bars and showrooms. It shows dust more than flake does, so it's less suited to a working garage.

Solid colour epoxy floors
One colour, usually grey, finished in gloss or satin. It's clean and simple, and it's the base for most workshop and industrial floors, often with line marking added. Satin hides scuffs better than high gloss.

Grip, sun and cleaning
Any of these finishes can be made grippier by mixing fine anti-slip grit into the final coat. Floors that catch direct sun should get a UV-resistant topcoat, otherwise the epoxy can turn yellow. All three clean with a broom and a damp mop, and harsh acid cleaners aren't needed.
